Services and Projects
History
For more than 30 years Mr. Castello Branco has been providing technological services as researcher and Project in several telecommunication areas.
Below are listed some samples of provided services covering many technological areas:
-
Technical Coordination of the SGB Project - Brasilian Geostationary Satellite, supported by FINEP/CPqD, required by Defense Ministry and Communication Ministry , aiming to mprovide satellite capacity to the Brazilian Army, Air Force and Navy and also supporting Flight Traffic Control, Climatic Monitoring and Remote área Internet access;
-
Technical Coordination of the R&D Project do Develop a Wireless Communication System to support High Voltage Line maintenance team of Furnas Centrais Elétricas SA;
-
Technical Coordination of the R&D Project to create and test a new methodology to verify interoperability of Power Line Digital Relays through IEC 61850 standard;
-
Technical Coordination of the project RASFA-P3 (Advanced Wireless System to integrate LTE and WiMAX plus satellite networks) Project supported by FUNTTEL / CPqD.

SGB - Brazilian Geostationary Satellite
Specified to suply strategic demands from Brazilian Government, this Project was the first version of the actual SGDC (Satélite Geogestacionário de Defesa e Comunicações) which was effectivelly launched in 2017. At that first version the satellite aimed to support mainly the air traffic control to the Airforce and Civil aviation, with an augmentation system based on a L band payload which would allow the safe decrease of flight time intervals in the same route, and thus increasing the air traffic over Brazil and South America. SGB was planned to have a payload also in the X band to support defense activities on the ground and over the sea. The satellite was also planned to use C and Ku band transponders in order to provide Internet and data services to Federal Government. Also with a payload in the S band SGB would support meteorological services with an imaging system.
Coordinating SGB project for CPqD, Castello Branco has been also responsible for orbital position studies in order to optimize coverage and reduce interference and sharing problems in L, S, C, Ku and X band.
P&D Furnas_LT
This Project aimed to develop an integrated system (wireless, optical and energy) to provide communication to the power line maintenance team and from them to FURNAS substations and management sites.
The system was composed by:
-
WiFi Access Point operating in dual mode ( access and bridge) allowing signal coverage near HP towers and lines;
-
Omnidirectional antennas designed to provide man access and tower bridge;
-
Switch and optical fiber connection system to allow integration between wireless and optical segments using OPGW cable avalilable in the power lines;
-
Battery and solar panel in order to keep the system working even during cloud and raining weather;
-
SIP server used to provide VoIP (Voice over IP) communication to FURNAS field and office teams developed to allow PTT (Push-to-Talk) over WiFi as well as PABX and Internet connection.
-
WiFi vídeo camera allowing remote supervision of the line maitenance team.
-
Management IP System developed to monitor and manage hardware & software network elements.
P&D FURNAS_IEC61850
This R&D project supported by ANEEL (Brazilian Eletric Power Regulatory Board), aimed to develop and validate a new methodology to achieve interoperability between digital eletric power relays operating based on the new IEC-61850 standard. This standard was conceived to provide full integration between power plant relay pools from different suppliers. Acting in differente layers at the power plant system, those digital relays should communicate fast and safe in order to provide power plant and high voltage transmission lines protection
This project counted on the cooperation of the most important digital relay manufacturers in the world and used to suply to FURNAS but in a turn-key mode.
RASFA - P3
An R&D Project supported by FUNTTEL and the Communication Ministry that aimed to study Advanced Wireless Networks integrating WiMAX / LTE and the FSS (Fixed Satellite Service).
The Project counted on the technical cooperation of ETRI (South Korea) and STARONE (Brazilian Satellite Service Provider).
The solution aimed to attend remote areas with Internet and Data access for digital inclusion.
